Welcome to the Abbey

Founded and run by Theresa Dunbar, Jackalope Abbey Studio calls the Raleigh Triangle area home, a small upgrade from it's founding in Dunbar's college apartment
Inspired by history, science, and sustainability Theresa continues to create each print, design, or illustration with passion and care
Print making, illustration, and more! Oh my!

Who
Born and raised in Raleigh, Dunbar studied Studio Arts at UNCW, where she fell in love with printmaking, illustration, and graphic design. When the opportunity arose to table her first event, she jumped at the chance and has loved participating in art markets ever since.
Why
From Redwall to Northanger, and even real-life abbeys like the one in Melrose, Scotland, Dunbar has long been fondly fascinated by these storied places. She’s drawn to their historical layers how some have stood for centuries, and how others have been repurposed, taking on new life once the clergy no longer roamed the halls.
As for the Jackalope of it all, Dunbar is drawn to its folkloric oddity a creature of tall tales and twilight folklore.
What
Printmaking
Screen and block printing are near and dear to Dunbar's heart. The mediums transform a piece of rubber or silk into a personal printing press that can create endless variation; paper, fabric, collage, double prints, combo prints, monoprints!
Sustainable Art Practices
From using textiles doomed to the landfill to hand making new paper from old printouts and homework pages Dunbar enjoys upcycling, recycling, and finding new ways to cut down on waste! One of the most popular parts of the J.A.S. table set up at markets is the Junk Drawer, full of misprints and other byproducts of the studio work that visitors can dig through to add to their collage bins, scrap books, or junk journals.
